Tips for Growing Healthy and Tasty Apples

by Jeffrey Sparks

2. Plant in a sunny location: Apple trees need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day to grow and bear fruit well. Choose a location in your garden that gets plenty of sunlight and is sheltered from strong winds.

3. Provide good air circulation: Apple trees need good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases such as mildew and scab. Don’t plant your trees too close together and prune regularly to promote air circulation.

4. Water regularly: Keep the soil around your apple trees evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Water trees deeply to help the roots grow and develop.

5. Protect against pests and diseases: Regularly check your apple trees for signs of pests and diseases, such as aphids, codling moth and fungal diseases. If necessary, use organic pesticides to address problems.

With proper care and attention, you can enjoy a bountiful harvest of crisp, juicy apples from your own garden.
